Sometimes animals become popular through the magic of Hollywood.  Motion pictures containing a variety of animals can appeal to young children and adults too, which results in a huge mistake and the animal is usually the one paying the price.  It's not as bad as the rabbits and chicks that go to new homes at Easter time; only to die prematurely or be released into the wild (again, to die prematurely). However, these things do happen, but they don't have too.

We should be well educated about the animal that has captured our heart.  We need to know things like a rabbit needs something to chew on to wear down his teeth.  We need to know how the diet of a chicken changes as it matures.  Most important of all, we need to realize that baby animals grow-up and need additional space.

Walt Disney Studios released a movie known to all as 101 Dalmatians and every time it is released many people believe that they should have a Dalmatian as a pet.  It usually results in many Dalmatians being taken to an animal shelter.  If only they had done the research and thought out the responsibilities of owning a dog.

Being breeders of Siberian Huskies, we have seen our days of people swarming to own a "Snow Dog", and that's one of the reasons we are so concerned with the knowledge that potential owners possess.

Siberian Huskies have been used often in movies such as Walt Disney's Iron Will , Snow Dogs, Eight Below and Snow Buddies.  As already mentioned, movies can have a large impact on the popularity of dog breeds and is no reason to desire any breed. It is important to understand the breed, especially the needs of the breed in question. Siberian Huskies have specific demands. They are not your average 'porch dog'. There are other aspects to learn also, even the appearance of the Siberian Husky has many qualities to learn. Just so you are aware, there are no colors or combinations that are labeled undesirable, it is simply an individual preference.
Sure, we love the interesting calls that we receive during times when Siberian Huskies have become popular due to a movie, but we are not reaping the benefits.  We are educating the curious and determining good homes for any offspring of our pets.
